UTILITY TREATMENT WORKS - pARRAMATTA lIGHT RAIL

Client: PCPLR

Commenced: April 2020

Completed: Ongoing

Scope: Utility treatment package works, installing new Electrical, Potable Water, Gas, Communications, Stormwater, Streetlighting assets, as well as new Smart pole foundations, commissioning works, and removal of each abandoned asset for laying of LR track. With ongoing successful delivery of a turnkey project solution, RNR became the preferred contractor for additional works for all types of scope on the project, including traffic switches, weekend shutdown works, and temporary works installation.

Total Length: 1.2km, multiple alignments

Key Challenges: Complex staging of works around commissioning deadlines for each utility, combined with site access constraints due to traffic restrictions outside hospital emergency services access. Utilisation of project-wide Rationalised Utility Model, troubleshooting complex proposed alignments to mitigate future costs and delays to client.

Result: Road and Rail successfully delivered the contract scope of works to allow client to meet external milestones despite delayed site possession, seamlessly aligning our safety procedures and methodologies to client’s safety essentials to the extent of winning multiple project-wide awards and commendations from both client and state governing bodies for excellence in safety and sustainability management. Ongoing success and reliability has built RNR’s project reputation to lea to ongoing works.

2C5 Leppington 132kV Transmission feeder haul

Client: Streamlined Energy/ Endeavour Energy

Commenced: April 2021

Completed: June 2021

Scope: Cable haul of 6x 1.2km transmission feeders for connection to new Leppington ZS through existing conduits, and assistance for Endeavour Energy jointing crews.

Total Length: 6x 1.2km Cable Hauls

Key Challenges: Cable haul through existing conduits requiring hazard identification of mislaid existing conduits. Early identification of cable pulling pinch points such as tight radius bends, unplanned kinks in alignment, and conduits with backfill material seepage. Successful identification and rectification of issues, leading to a safe, efficient cable haul. Complexity added by oversized 500m cable drums, 4.2m high and 22 tons, requiring bespoke float and lifting plans for smoothness of onsite operations.

Result: Road and Rail delivered cable hauls following the identification of differences between design and construction of conduit runs, presenting cascading issues that were managed and overcome, whilst providing a completed cable haul for EE jointing crews to attend site in accordance with their required timeframes.

PUPS Artarmon - Transmission and PW Asset Relocation

Client: Systems Connect (SCLWW)/TfNSW

Commenced: May 2021

Completed: Ongoing

Scope: Installation of new Transmission conduits and joint bay as part of Sydney Metro Enabling Works, including relocation of existing HV and PW assets to achieve alignment.

Total Length: 600m

Key Challenges: Traffic Management in congested high industrial area, including client and stakeholder. management to achieve necessary productivity for client to delivery project-wide milestones,

Result: Ongoing works continue to meet program as a result of effective works planning, staging, and optimisation of allowed working times, executed onsite through hands-on approach to management and collaborative problem-solving with client representatives. In the short time since project commencement, Road and Rail have been recognised on a project-wide level for implementing our above-the-line approach to safety.

Consac/HDPE Cable Replacement Project, Bondi NSW

Client: Ultegra

Commenced: February 2019

Completed: August 2019

Scope: Excavation and laying of conduits (mix of 4 way, 2 way and service conduits) to facilitate the installation of 240 Al4 XLPE distributors, 4x185 Cu1 parrot cable, and 16mm Al4 service cables. Bulk trenching adjacent to in service Consac cables and existing utilities, along with exposing existing pillars, creation of new pillars and enabling final cut over works by Ausgrid.

Total Length: 2.5km

Key Challenges: Many alignment changes to facilitate new distributor installation requiring redesign from original concept. Sandy/loamy ground conditions requiring shoring at depths <1.5m due to trench collapse. Parked cars a major constraint to manage, along with difficult stakeholders to manage. Old residential area, meaning many old services in trench alignment not buried to safe standards, including stuck to underside of concrete footway. 15m long, 3m deep bore solution applied through a high-traffic intersection due to unstable ground conditions.

Result: Project was delivered without incident (safety, quality or stakeholder complaint). Project delivered on time and on budget, given the huge deviation from the initial project scope which required diligent communication and documentation of these changes.

11kV Feeder Works, Kirribilli NSW

Client: Quickway

Commenced: February 2019

Completed: September 2019

Scope: Excavation and laying of conduits (generally 4 way) to facilitate the installation of 11kV 300mm TR XLPE Cables. Bulk trenching in roadway, in near 100% rock (Sydney Sandstone).

Total Length: 1.9km

Key Challenges: Ground conditions were rock at approximately 50MPA in compressive strength. This was overcome using adequately sized machines and sawing techniques where necessary. Design called for 11kV cabling to be hauled through an underground chamber substation which presented significant risk. Parked cars a major constraint to manage, along with difficult stakeholders to manage.

Result: Project was delivered without incident (safety, quality or stakeholder complaint). Road and Rail facilitated a redesign based on their concept to avoid hauling cable through an in service, confined space in Bradfield Park. Rock variations were diligently managed daily, facilitating easy capture of additional scope. Project delivered on time and on budget, given the huge deviation from the initial project scope which required diligent communication and documentation of these changes.

ELECTRICAL AND EARLY WORKS WESTERN SYDNEY AIRPORT

Client: CPBG JV

Commenced: April 2022

Completed: Ongoing

Scope: Multiple early works packages, including utility design confirmation investigations, electrical decommissioning packages, electrical connections, bulk civil excavation works, and concreting works

Key Challenges: Being the first contractor onsite led to troubleshooting project processes, systems, and site preparation and mobilisation issues with the client. Assisting in site posessions and preparation works to facilitate better long term site management and maintenence for both our works and the client.

Result: Rapid development of a strong client relationship as the Road and Rail team became onsite champions for developing sustainable and workable solutions for issues that arose for both our works and that beyond our scope, at the request of the client. Through clear communication and striving to provide a complete ssolution to the client, the team has become the preferred contracotr onsite, further strengthenig the relationship, and enabling the large-scale project to achieve its milestones.
